Coordinate sizing of energy storage and transmission line for a remote renewable power plant

To protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions, renewable power generation has been growing rapidly during past decade. Renewable energy resources are sometimes far away from main grid, leading to expensive grid-connection transmission lines. Deploying on-site storage can smooth output help spillage requirement of line capacity. This paper presents a method coordinately size for remote plant, minimising total investment cost subject constraint curtailment risk. Through an optimal operation model, is proven be piecewise affine function capacity parameters generation, linear programming-based algorithm proposed generate approximate expression. A distributionally robust optimisation model determine sizes. The uncertainty modelled by Wasserstein-metric-based ambiguity set containing probability distributions around empirical distribution constructed historical data. utilisation rate ensured in worst-case distribution. sizing problem transformed into tractable program. case study demonstrates effectiveness method.
